On the 23rd of march, the 66th lecture of the teachers' union was carried out in the lecture hall No.117 of Xingjian Building on Shaoxing campus. Dr. Hu Xiaomin from the department of liberal arts delivered a special lecture entitled "the study of American education on core values: a survey of the recent 70 years", which has drawn more than 200 teachers and students to the scene.
In the lecture, Hu started with introducing the history of the development of American democracy, pointing out the significance of studying the core values of the United States. With the specific examples of economy, military, culture, education and other aspects, Hu analyzed the typical characteristics of the development of core value education, the theory, the objective, the content, the implementation, and the methods of education in the United States within the latest 70 years. He then explores the deep political, economic, and cultural connotation behind American core values on the basis of typical historical notables in America, with the focus of the representational American cultural symbols. In addition, aiming at the present stage of socialist core values education in China, Hu summarized the beneficial experience, and put forward several referential suggestions that can be the guidance of the current development of both the theory and the practices of the socialist core values education.
